This tiny book is less a novel than a handful of vignettes, or puzzle pieces, beautiful and intricate but the joins between them are not clear.

That said there is so much to love and admire here, the final chapter that tells the story of X and Y being my favourite. As other reviewers have noted, there is a similarity here with The Man Who Saw Everything - this almost feels like a proof of concept for that book.

If you can forgo the comforts of a linear narrative, you'll love the gorgeous writing and the powerful themes. ( )
