Keane Educator and Archbishop 1839-1918, by Patrick Henry Ahern, M.A., Ph.D. (read 4 Nov 1961) Since I spent three school years at Loras residing in the Hall named for this archbishop and the other Archbishop Keane of Dubuque I had to read this book and I found it full of interest.

Keane, by Patrick Henry Ahern (read 1 May 1992) This book is a version of the author's thesis and I thought quoted too much and was not too interesting. Keane was the first Rector of the Catholic University. I thought the author's biography of John J. Keane, who after his rectorship became Archbishop of Dubuque, was a more interesting book. (When I attended Loras College in Dubuque for three years I lived in Keane Hall, which was named for John J. Keane and another Archbishop Keane of Dubuque.)… (mais)

2913 Catholic Heritage in Minnesota North Dakota South Dakota Edited by Reverend Patrick H. Ahern, M.A., Ph.D. (read 2 Oct 1996) This book was published in 1964 in connection with the 75th jubilee observance of the Province of St. Paul and the suffragan dioceses of St. Cloud, Duluth, Winona, Sioux Falls and Fargo. It is well illustrated and has accounts of each of those dioceses and of New Ulm, Crookston, Rapid City, and Bismarck as well. It is a really good book and I enjoyed reading it. Especially noteworthy are the accounts of the struggles endured in the early days of Crookston and the Dakota dioceses. One really has to admire the early pioneers of the Church, who are real heroes insufficiently appreciated by those of us who benefit from their early labor.… (mais)
