Keane was the first Rector of the Catholic University. I thought the author's biography of John J. Keane, who after his rectorship became Archbishop of Dubuque, was a more interesting book. 2913 Catholic Heritage in Minnesota North Dakota South Dakota Edited by Reverend Patrick H. Ahern, M.A., Ph.D. (read 2 Oct 1996) This book was published in 1964 in connection with the 75th jubilee observance of the Province of St. Paul and the suffragan dioceses of St. Cloud, Duluth, Winona, Sioux Falls and Fargo. It is well illustrated and has accounts of each of those dioceses and of New Ulm, Crookston, Rapid City, and Bismarck as well. It is a really good book and I enjoyed reading it. Especially noteworthy are the accounts of the struggles endured in the early days of Crookston and the Dakota dioceses. One really has to admire the early pioneers of the Church, who are real heroes insufficiently appreciated by those of us who benefit from their early labor.… (mais)
