Garry Boulard's saga about one of Louisiana's most prominent politicians is splendid. Boulard tells the story of how Long came to New Orleans in such a troublesome time, during the Great Depression, and advocated for the needs of the people, not just an elite group. Or so we thought? Boulard gives slightly a different account of Long, as somewhat of a dictator using the Louisiana National Guard to demonstrate his prowess over local politicians.

This book is not recommended for those who really want to learn about Long. I recommend other books, like "Kingfish: The Reign of Huey P. Long" or better yet, "Huey Long" by T. Harry Williams for a better, less biased analysis. Overall, I would not recommend this book to others who are truly interested in the legacy of Long. Or, if they read this, they should supplement it with other readings.

However, this book is decent in the sense that it is written on a high school level and can easily be understood by teenagers.
