This book is boring. It drags along and meanders to different subjects that seem interesting at first, but it doesn’t seem to have a cohesive theme or idea. It misdirects you at the very first chapter. From the title, I assumed it would be about how people are rebelling against the surveillance state that is so common in many countries today. However, the author decides to open by talking about how we actually see.

So as I said, the author goes and meanders from subject to subject. She tips her hat to one idea and moves on to another. Her prose is gorgeous; I will acknowledge that. She discusses the ideas of invisibility in popular culture with the Ring of Gyges, The One Ring from Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter’s Invisibility Cloak, and so on. Eventually, she does get to the idea of the Surveillance State and how people are trying to be unseen in a world that craves attention, but by that time I didn’t really care anymore.… (mais)

Raises interesting points on the crafting and control of personal identity in the modern digital era. I would have rated it higher, but I found some of the chapters--while still technology- or psychologically-oriented and interesting on their own, strayed quite far from the core subject. This editorial tenuousness made it come across as a couple partial books or a serious of articles instead of one focused, cohesive work, but I still found it timely and well worth the read.
