At the beginning of Two Lies and a Spy, Karina and her brother, Charlie receive Code Black messages from their CIA agent parents indicating that they need to go into hiding immediately. It isn't long before both are on the run from former friends of the family who are trying to kidnap them. Kari seeks out help from her friends who all have talents that will help them find their missing parents and escape the kidnappers. When their parents are accused of treason, Charlie and Kari must find a way to prove their innocence.

This was a pretty good young adult spy adventure with lots of action and some twists. It would have been better if there was more insight into the emotions of the characters, but overall this was a good, quick read.

Two lies and a spy is a great read for ages 14 & up. Loving family turns enemy. Kari and Charlie are just two kids with some considerable talents. How many seven year olds can claim that they are fluent in four different languages? Charlie can. How many sixteen year olds can claim that they've been shot, been almost kidnapped and become caught up in a huge family scandal? Kari can. When the siblings receive code black messages from their parents, they make friends never imagined, and get tangled up in a family problem that goes way further than normal.
This book receives a four and a half out of five. A must read on my list.

Kari gets a text from her dad while in school and recognizes the emergency code. Her parents are in trouble, and she must retrieve her younger brother, Charlie. Once together, the pair attempts to determine why they’re suddenly in danger and why their parents have vanished. They get caught up in spy-jinks and soon are on the run, pursued by a nameless enemy. Stunned when her parents are accused of being spies who have turned against the agency, Kari intends to prove the government wrong. Two Lies and a Spy is a fun, fresh look at teens as spies. The Spy Kids films, Sky High movie, and Alex Rider stories come to mind. A breezy writing style combined with plot twists and turns, humor, teen angst, and fast pacing make this an easy read.… (mais)
