There's a legion of Pride & Prejudice retellings out there and this one managed the trick of updating the tale while keeping the key story intact - and also, of not annoying me. Enough has been changed that a certain freshness comes through and the pace is quick, making for a fast and approachable read. Overall, I'm certain a diehard Jane Austen fan could find something wrong with this book, but I truly enjoyed it and appreciated it for what it was.

A book based on Pride and Prejudice. Nice characters. Fun easy read but the worst ending.

This delightful retelling of Pride and Prejudice recovers the sisterhood of the Bennett family, making their love for each other the center of the novel. The casting of the Bennett family as former reality tv stars is perfect and poignant, inviting readers to question our own assumptions about people who are "famous for being famous." Cotugno's take on the Lydia/Olivia plot line translated beautifully, and deepened my understanding of that character and Darcy's responsibility for the situation. Exactly what I want from a retelling: a pleasure to read on its own, and a lens through which to understand the original with a bit more empathy and nuance.… (mais)

My tolerance level for YA books is pretty low. They have to be something special to not annoy me. I wouldn't say this one was special, but it didn't annoy me as much as I initially feared. Yes, there is some angst and too much back-and-forth, will-they-won't-they nonsense, but it also had some important things to say about being true to one's self; the effects of death, divorce, and alcoholism on families; and class differences and assumptions.
