Sobre a morte de Cristo –suicídio ou sacrifício, voluntária ou submissa – perde-se em deambulações filosóficas e teológicas, quase esquecendo os factos históricos descritos na única fonte disponível: os Evangelhos. Em contrapartida valoriza os comentários e construções elaborados por pensadores posteriores.
Poucas ideias interessantes foram retiradas deste livro, quer para o conhecimento do cristianismo, quer para o do suicídio. Entre elas há a salientar duas:
Sendo, para os Romanos, o suicídio uma forma do homem ultrapassar os deuses, os cristãos não podiam tomar outra atitude face ao suicídio senão condená-lo. Por outro lado, o suicídio induzido dos mártires e o suicídio lento dos monges, será exaltado.
Constantino ao reconhecer em Jesus o Cristo, ao reabilitar a sua memória, estava a pôr em causa a justiça romana que o condenara.
A reler apenas caso o suicídio venha a interessar do ponto de vista filosófico.… (mais)
