This book had some ok parts, lots of great Irish cultural mentions and they actually do have sex in this one! The story is incredibly repetitive and the characters are pretty stupid. There are many dime words sprinkled throughout, which makes it feel like the writer worked her thesaurus hard, not hating on that though. There is some obvious cheesy bits, to be expected. This could have been much better, but I'm not saying I could've written it better. I got it for free and it was worth it.

This is a fantastic historical cozy mystery. I love Mercy because she is witty and fun. I love all of Mercy’s friends. Ernie is a great PI and boss. This is a great series. I did not want to put this book down until the wonderful conclusion. I received a copy of this book from ebook discovery for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

A fun read set in Los Angeles in 1929, Mercy Allcutt has a brother-in-law in the film industry, and a private eye boss. There are plenty of unexpected twists and turns as Mercy gets involved in trying to solve multiple mysteries, including a murder. This story reminded me of Nick and Nora films. I plan to read more books in this series.

dnf @ 20% - thank goodness i rented this one. honestly, i got like 70 pages in, flipped forward to mark the end of chapter five to see if i wanted to stick with it after that, and saw just a Bit too much "period accurate" discrimination for my taste. also i'm pretty sure they're setting it up so the female lead is going to cheat on her husband and i'm not about that.
