A look at mystery writing from the 1880s to the 1960s in which characters can be read as gay or lesbian. Some of the essays are more convincing than others. I've added some of the books discussed to my TBR list but for the most part they were by authors I was already aware of.

Secondary characters weren't particularly interesting (nor primary characters, come to think of it), and I pretty much only kept reading on the off-chance that this new-to-me author might be building up to something surprisingly fantastic. She didn't.

(Note: 5 stars = amazing, wonderful, 4 = very good book, 3 = decent read, 2 = disappointing, 1 = awful, just awful. I'm fairly good at picking for myself so end up with a lot of 4s). I feel a lot of readers automatically render any book they enjoy 5, I'm a bit more ruthless.… (mais)
