I liked the illustrations, although I did think it was strange how small the people are depicted and how large the horses are. The story wasn't great, though, and I was bothered that Matilda is described as fat -- not only is she not fat, she's the same size or smaller than most of the other characters!

Gorgeous illustrations and straight-forward yet unexpectedly touching prose ... probably more appreciated by adults (I'm 53, and found it very moving) but worth springing on the right child to see what they might make of it.

My favourite couplet: "And all those who had not been chewed / came round to show their gratitude."

(Note: 5 stars = amazing, wonderful, 4 = very good book, 3 = decent read, 2 = disappointing, 1 = awful, just awful. I'm fairly good at picking for myself so end up with a lot of 4s).… (mais)

In this picture book set in ancient Egypt, Nekatu and her brother, Hamut, stow away on a boat down the Nile, find their artistic talents honored by the King and Queen, and, with the help of an old crocodile pal, narrowly escape capture by kidnappers
