This is an exhaustive and exhausting biography of Rodin. It is well written and researched but it is a door stopper of nearly 700 pages. My copy was a used paperback and based on the cracks on the spine previous readers only made it halfway through. I persevered. It is ideal for someone who is obsessed with Rodin or researching the fin de siecle cultural milieu of France. For anyone else it’s likely just too much, as it incorporates nearly every breath the sculptor took. Proceed with that caveat.

A priceless account of the Akha communities of northern Thailand, based on a few months' stay in an actual Akha village. The account shows the warm admiration of the author for this deeply traditional and hard-working people, and a way of life based on the natural world that may no longer be viable because of growing population, increased competition and outside control of the forest and land resources, and the inroads of modern life. The book is immensely enhanced by the tastefully displayed photographs of Michael Freeman, obviously one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. This is a volume in a little known series on 'People of the Wild' from Time-Life Books.

It was like visiting Vienna all over again. The ancestral lands of both sides of my family, we have always had a sincere love for Central Europe. Igles, a small village above Innsbruck, is our favorite ski destination.

Details the wonderful, intellectually rich life destroyed by Hitler and WWII. This is a marvelous book for someone looking to expand a reading list. You come out of it with a list of titles a mile long.

I absolutely love this book. It was a release for me when I was in college. I would grab it off of the shelf when I needed a break from studying. Now I have my own copy and have made a few of the games myself. It is filled with great information and is really enjoyable.

A fantastic book! This book is a compendium of over 100 games - both board games and outdoor games, formal and less formal. Each game comes with rules and instructions to how to make your own: for example with go, there's a how-to for building a proper go table. This book is for the arts & crafts people, the instructions aren't always easy!

What's best about this book in my opinion is the pictures: the book is full of really charming photographs of people around the world playing their games. That's real game culture, and few books capture that. This is an excellent addition to any board game library.½
