POLLY WANTS A CRACKER is actually a cute little book that is totally goofy and fun. The whole story consists of Polly's escalating cracker demands. First she wants one, then two... on up to ten! The story ends with a joke about her gaining weight.

A lot of the humor is in the drawings. Jerry Warshaw has added a dog who provides funny facial expressions and actions.

I couldn't find any reading level information for this book but the vocabulary is simple:

This is a quick read that would probably still be in print if the publisher had only taken advantage of the full educational potential of the book. They could have pictured a line of crackers at the top of the page and moms might still be using this book to teach little ones how to count. But no crackers. Nothing of any sort to count. A shame as POLLY WANTS A CRACKER has humor even toddlers could appreciate.

This would be an excellent literary text for ESOL students. The book uses general vocabulary that would be appropriate for 1st grade students. The book is written in Spanish; therefore, it could also be an adequate resource for Spanish teachers. The text could be utilized to improve elementary school students' knowledge of the Spanish language.

“Your Pet Penguin” is an imaginative book that explains how to take care of a penguin. The book explains how to take care of a penguin while also giving true facts about penguins. The book is a little outdated, but it is a fun book and requires a lot of imagination.
