About the Author

Roger Hesketh was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. He was called to the Bar in 1928 and elected the Member of Parliament for Southport in 1952. During the war, he was director of the sub-section of the Fortitude operation that was devoted to spreading misinformation. Fortitude: The D-Day Deception Campaign por Roger Hesketh
Okay, I may not have the right to review this as I didn't finish it. After reading Crusade in Europe by Eisenhower I became interested in learning more about the "Special Means" employed to misdirect the German intelligence in the run-up to D-Day. I'm certain this is the very best book there could be on the topic- it was written immediately after the war and was only declassified in the late '70s. Except this book has a major flaw for the ordinary reader: it's a government/military report written for other government/military types, in particular, government/military types already familiar with the history of SHEAF in great detail.

Alas, I am none of those things and I returned this book to the library and picked up Bodyguard of Lies instead.… (mais)
