Stereotypical start and quite predictable. However, the integration of modern technology with the matrilineal model of local societies and incipient political processes are beginning to drive the storyline nicely. It should have enough staying power to enable this 1632 sub-series to evolve nicely.

Continues the canon nicely through a chaotic Russian political scenario. Despite the cast of characters list, its multiplicity and critical absences made this a slow and difficult book to read, almost, negating a good storyline.

Interesting and firmly within the Assitti storyline; this series set in Czarist Russia is moving along nicely. Reluctant khans, tsars, and tribal leaders are coming to grips with and even adopting the basic tenets of democracy. Miroslava does solve crimes that are linked to and drive this quantum shift from lords and serfs to citizens and elected leaders but it is as a subset to the evolving political process.
