About the Author

Rachel Kranz received a B.A. in history from Carleton College and an M.A. in literature from Columbia University. She was a prolific ghostwriter and co-author. Her novel, Leaps of Faith, was published in 2000. She was a playwright, who founded her own theater company Theater of Necessity. She was mostrar mais also a journalist and tournament poker player. She wrote a blog entitled Adventures in Poker and wrote articles for Poker Pro Magazine. She died from cancer on August 28, 2017 at the age of 62. (Bowker Author Biography) mostrar menos

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is shocking to me, because it is contemporary literature, it is NOT a mystery, it is told from the point of view of multiple people--a technique I have never liked--and it is 565 pages. What can I say? I picked it up because it was on a library gay and lesbian display table and the first couple of pages interested me enough to take it home. It remained interesting to me all the way till the end. I found myself wondering about the characters each night after I put the book down. I do think it's longer than it needed to be and there are things I didn't like about the writing. But overall, I found the characters engaging, the love stories real, the ideas meaningful...and I guess most of all it was refreshing to read a book about people who could be in my world. It was also great to read a gay/lesbian book that is not a coming-out story or a mystery (not that I don't love both of those genres) but a big old companionable bedside-reading novel. It seemed kind of unique to me in that way.… (mais)
