The one that started my obseesion with diseases and the heroes who track them down. It is exciting and, even after all these years, still a compelling read

I learned much biology from this book, before I was old enough to take a biology class in high school.

While I understand that when an author is writing a scientific book for the lay person he has to tone down the science a bit, in Microbe Hunters, the author Paul De Kruif grossly over does this, to the point that it becomes an insult to the readers' intelligence. And that's not even my biggest problem with this book.
