It's an emotional and beautiful second chance story. The two main characters, Dallas and Banks, can really raise all the emotions. This story hits on so many levels, from a second chance romance to the building and bonding of a new family. Every page has something almost magical to steal your breath and your heart. I was cheering for these two for a multitude of reasons. Their love, the kids, their families... just about everything. I wanted Banks and Dallas to have it all and when they finally do...it’s absolutely incredibly, beautiful. The two narrators, Chris Chambers and John Solo, were so perfect for the voices of Dallas and Banks.… (mais)

I liked the characters, Lane, Shaw and Keegan...but I got a bit tired of all the swearing. These men were all well-educated, intelligent men and I'm sure they had more of a vocabulary composed of more than just four-letter words. The story had good "bones". We have the story of these three men who are in love with each other but all needing to come to terms with turbulent pasts. One of them had the possibility of having everything to lose by just making his sexuality known, much less letting it get out that he was in a threesome relationship. Somehow, Lane, Shaw and Keegan manage to find acceptance with very little backlash, UNTIL...you knew there was going to be an "until" because up until now everything was okay, and things were going along way too well. Keegan was a football coach extraordinaire with a team in Cincinnati and had had a fantastic season winning every single game...and they were going to the BIG GAME...but then tragedy struck when Lane, was shot at the game by a homophobic fan because a reporter had taken, and the paper printed a picture of Keegan holding hands with his two guys. This is where the angst comes in that went on a bit too long and introduced a ton more characters that we really didn't need that much of and was never going to hear from again. I felt what had been a well-paced story was suddenly bogged down by all this. The three guys did eventually have a very "happy ever after", and the story got the message across that love is love and that's all that matters in the end.… (mais)

Ahhh, I've given this 4 stars but written no notes - strange. Because this book was definitely a little different. An intergenerational love story, AND an intra-family love story - if there is such a word. I've had to read the summary to bring back the details.

... I said good-bye to my son. But he had one final request-a letter I'll never forget. Dear Dad, If you're reading this, it means I'm gone. I had one dream, growing old with Holland. Death won't stop me from providing for my wife. And because you're the best man I know, what I'm about to ask-my last request-I know you'll do. Please take care of Holland. Take her back to California with you. It's a lot-I know. But, I'm placing my most precious possession in your hands. Love, Scott But the thoughts swirling through my mind are certainly not what my late son had in mind. How do I resist this woman in front of me? After all, you can't choose love, it chooses you.

Maguire (father) gets thrown into the middle of it when he takes care of his son's wife, Holland, and she is expecting a child. The two have had almost no relationship, so on top of their grief, there is this new family they need to create, and a platonic relationship.

But Maguire comes to see why his son was smitten by Holland .. who up till now had not made an impact on Maguire. It's awkward. When he falls for her, reluctantly of course, but once done, he gives himself wholeheartedly to this new unexpected love.

His wide open affection for her is a beautiful thing, but it has to be navigated ever so cautiously because Holland is not going to 'leave' Scott (son).

Enjoyable story. At first I was not sure if I was going to like this one. There was potential for creepiness. I was pleasantly surprised.
