I thought this was a great leap forward for Lia in terms of sophistication and complexity in her storytelling. I like her previous work, but it isn't really my type of thing. For me, this has more depth and complexity, and hence is far more satisfying. The book deals a lot with Lia's spirituality and her inquisitiveness about religion, which I found really fascinating, particularly as it was coupled with her quirky humour. I think ultimately that's what I really liked in this book - serious subjects related through Lia's whimsical viewpoint.… (mais)

The second chapter book about a challenging friendship between a bird and a worm. Laurence and Marcus are best of friends and do everything together until Laurence decides to take up crossword puzzles. This is when Marcus thinks about time machines and shares a little white lie that his aunt has one. Once his imagination is running, Marcus thinks it could turn back time to the point where Laurence was not obsessed with crossword puzzles. How does he make this lie come true though? With the help of some bird friends, Marcus is able to conjure a Time Machine and a new adventure including dressed-up animals to pretend Marcus and Laurence are in medieval times. The truth does come out but Laurence is glad he was on another adventure with his friend.
The book has black and white illustrations except for Marcus. He is always in red and stands out on every page. It’s a little smaller in size than a regular chapter book. A silly fantasy story that could enthrall the right student.

Pretty fun book. All the pictures kept my kids engaged. It was really fun to read with the kids. A lot of books seem too random but this one had a lot of adventure with diversions while maintaining a sense of order. Fun!
