This is the "Darker Ending to a Dark Romance."
This was very well done, a worthy ending and my favorite in the series.
The scenes from Max's and Lucy's pov described her horrific ordeal and their respective reactions to it perfectly.

I like how this ending really is an entirely different ending, an entirely different story with different events.
But.
To enable this ending, the author seems to have made some choices for her characters that are not entirely consistent character-wise with the previous books; a strong word for it would have to be "character assassination". In addition, there's some 'magic tricks' performed on the characters:
Because of these two factors I did not find this alternative ending as interesting or entertaining as the other books in the series. Compared to the 4.1 ending this alternative ending is much much weaker, novel-wise.
I doubt that 4.2 is indeed a lighter ending. Yes, some gruesome elements from 4.1 are missing, but 4.2 is definitely not a light book and I would argue in some ways even darker and bleaker.… (mais)
