This is an extraordinary work. It really does give a different take on SF first contact stories. The aliens are totally relatable, yet totally different to us. The author has done a great job of making them so extraordinary yet keeping our sympathies firmly aligned with them. A riveting read with a good ending.

It is difficult to categorize. It is about “aliens” but more in the sense of strange and not extraterrestrials. But above all it deals with feelings: love, hate, especially to what is different, unity, sacrifice, ... The ending seems to me a bit good-natured.
