My first impression of this, through probably the first hundred pages or so, was of a spoiled adult child acting out, with an overindulgent mother slightly hidden in the background, the author's source of money and connections. But then I came around to thinking that she has a unique way of feeling the world around her, and she pointed out the unexpected dimensions of the humans and others she encountered. Quite unique in it's approach and in her writing. I came to appreciate it, and enjoy it completely. Looking back on that first impression, I think it was an accurate reflection of where she was at the time in her life, and what initially irritated me wound up satisfying my need for a good story, start to finish. Rose had it correct when she wrote " You can't be the smartest person who doesn't do anything forever." I can relate to Alison because I love to stay in my apartment with my cat and read.
