Critics liken this to Gone Girl. It is a thriller, but, I don't think it has the same vibes as Gone Girl. That book/then into movie story was so vindictive. This book led you to the killer as the story unraveled there was more than 1 deceitful person, but it was somewhat easy to see the ending before you got there. Otherwise, a great story that kept my interest the entire time.

Eve has been the narrator for all nine of Philippa Roberts' popular crime fiction D.I. Tower series but then Philippa disappeared, Eve's father died, and her marriage collapsed. Now Philippa's tenth novel has turned up and Eve is offered the job of narrator again.

But, as she reads, Eve feels there is something wrong with this novel. It doesn't feel quite right. So she starts asking questions about the disappearance of the novelist, and Eve starts to get threatening messages.

This plot has some good strands and some interesting characters - sure to keep you reading to find out the final answer.… (mais)

* A copy of this book was kindly provided to me by Netgalley and Bookouture in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! A big thank you to K.L. Slater as well for having an amazing story to share with her readers this was absolutely a must read for those who love thrillers! *
While on her way to work one day as a mail carrier, Anna witnesses a road traffic accident in which a car collides with a motorcyclist right in front of her. When Anna gets out of the car to help the injured man, she is shocked to see the driver is Carla, who she has been looking for over the last 13 years. Is this divine intervention or just a bad day colliding with a bad childhood for Anna?
The story progresses at a very quick pace and revolves around Anna’s need to right the wrong of thirteen years ago and avenge the death of her brother Danny. Anna finds out that Carla’s name is now Amanda and does everything she can to construct a smear campaign where Amanda is seen as this dreadful person.
As the story advances, there are plenty of flashbacks to thirteen years ago, and we eventually find out more of Anna's and Danny's story and their horrible mother. We also hear from Amanda's point of view, and that of Mrs Peat, Anna's neighbor, who has secrets of her own.
The characters are very well written and there is enough backstory from Anna’s past to tie things together very nicely. Overall this gets 4 Safe stars from me if you have a day to spend reading this would be an awesome book to get lost in.
