My daughter brought this home from her school library because she thought I might like to read it too (she knows I love frogs). It is beautifully illustrated and has nice, music-themed verses for each page.

This is a beautifully illustrated non-fiction rhyming book about a variety of species of birds and the places where they build their nests. The end of the book includes a brief description of each type of bird mentioned in the text and illustrated. There is a nice balance in the book between the words on each page and the pictures. The rhymes are simple, but effective and there is repetition of the phrase "That's where birds build their nests" and the end of each section.

This is a wonderful book for including literacy in a science unit about birds and species. This text could also be used in a conversation about homes, and the various ways that animals care for their young. There are words in this text that would definitely need scaffolding with early readers, but the pattern of the text could help children place the new words in context.… (mais)
