Sobre mimMany years ago, a student friend unexpectedly signed a letter as "Luthien". On the spur of the moment, I chose for my reply a Middle-earth pseudonym which I had always thought rather evocative (and I didn't want to start anything I might regret by replying as "Beren"!). Since achieving internet access in the early 1990s, I have been using it on the Tolkien List (formerly at Johns Hopkins University, now at Google Groups).

In real life I work part-time as a science editor for a historical dictionary project (yes, that one), and spend the rest of the time trying to keep a small infant fed, clean, and happy. As I'm listed as second author for The Ring of Words: J. R. R. Tolkien and the Oxford English Dictionary, it doesn't register on the LibraryThing author system, but, hey, you can't have everything.

The paperback edition of "The Ring of Words" has landed on my desk!

Sobre a minha bibliotecaThis is just a selection of my library, mainly from my working collection, plus some books which I don't actually own, but which live on the shelf by my desk.

(My personal collection is catalogued under a different username: I'm not offering a prize to anyone who guesses which one!)

Well met! I find it curious that only three LT readers have both your books -- surely others read the "OED series" (I'd include _The Professor and the Madman_ as well). I greatly enjoyed the _Tolkien and the OED_ book. I had not realized before then that he'd been part of the great dictionary project. I have a Compact OED at home, and reference it often. Sometimes I'm as surprised by what I don't find in there as in what I find. For instance, I recently looked up "bogey-man" and expected it to trace back to Beowulf's dragon - "hringbogen", but it didn't say that, alas.

I think it is clear which Tolkien character I identify with. The A at the end is for a last name needed at one time to distinguish me from the other Eowyn admirer in my fencing club, long ago.
Thank you indeed! I have added it manually, although I created a separate entry for it, and was unable to insert my selection of it into the one you have aligned with.
Yes, I did, but I am unable to register it as belonging to my personal library. This inability is a mystery to me, because other Library Thing members have, and have posted reviews for it. Any advice on rectifying this would be much appreciated.
Thanks for stopping by! I don't know what's been happening today, I keep ending up in other people's libraries... :)
:-)
