I'm new so hope I'm doing this right. This was a paperback fiction I read approximately 15 years ago. The story was about a woman and her husband who had been attacked on the trail by a band of outlaws. She was raped and brutalized by all of the men and left for dead. Her husband was killed. When she had recovered from her injuries, she hired a gunfighter to teach her how to shoot, and he went along to help her on her quest for justice. Of course, they eventually fell in love (thus the romance). I can't remember the author or the name of the book, and it is driving me crazy. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I think I know this. She has damaged vocal cords from screaming which leaves her with a husky voice the gunslinger comments on, right? Hmmmm. I don't see it in my library.

You're absolutely right! I keep thinking the author's first name is Catherine, but my research on possible authors named Catherine hasn't helped.

>4 frenchvanilla0402: I am pretty sure it isn't Cherish. The h and her husband are attacked at the beginning of the book. No other family members.

lesmel, you did find it. It is Tempest by Catherine Hart. I'm so excited, and I can finally stop wracking my brain. You are my hero! Thanks to the other members who replied also.

>8 brandyrs: Please go ahead and start a new topic just for your book. Your query is presently buried under >1 DeeDee1950: and members scanning the group's topics list won't necessarily realize that your query is here.
Remember to add a descriptive subject line when you create your new topic -- maybe something like western romance train robbery? -- and just copy and paste the summary you've already written in your query. Thanks, and good luck!

Hello, this is my first trying and hope this is the correct process. I have been trying to remember a series of books I started reading in the late 80's. The stories were western historical based stories about young girls/ladies growing up in the United States. I believe as the west was being settled. I think the books had the name of states in them. The stories described life as a young girl becoming a young lady in these frontier states and the difficulties of such lives while finding love as well. For example, the last story I had started reading (and never finished) was about a 16 year old girl helping a neighboring settler who was recently widowed with a young baby or child and teaching the man about how to set up a household in unsettled territory.
