Recommendation from the under 30s

For a book challenge, I need to read a book recommended by someone from another generation. So if you are under 30, what's the best book you're read recently? Or if you can ask the under 30 in your life the same question.

Don't worry about if you think it'll suit me, I'll worry about that bit.

My pre-teen recommends Dragonhaven by Robin McKinley or Sorcery and Cecelia by Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stevermer.

How far under 30? Recommendations from my 8-year-old probably won't be of much interest ;-)

>3 lorax: I'd give most things a go. It's about being stretched out of my comfort zone.
And I bet fashion in books has changed a bit since I was 8...

>4 Helenliz: I read a rec from an LT member's 12 year old offspring earlier this year and it was very good!

>1 Helenliz: I have a 20-something in my life who keeps recommending The Poppy War to me. I still haven't read it yet, but maybe if you do it will get me off the hook. :-)

>5 spiralsheep: Well, you can't say that and not tell us what the book was!

>6 rosalita: Ha! It was The Name of This Book is Secret, but I should warn potential readers that it's good and the beginning of a series. :D

>7 spiralsheep: Thanks. :-) I need another series like I need another hole in my head, but I'll see if the library has it.

8 yo is currently very into graphic novels. (His narrative comprehension is very far ahead of his reading ability). I asked what he thought a grownup might like and he suggested Smile by Raina Telgemeier.

I asked a kid, too. Here are her answers.
