You cannot - the setting for that ja per message and not per user. When someone sends a message, there is a checkbox to make this message private. When checked, only the sender and recipient can see that message. When not, the message is public
You have two options:
- Archive your public messages (they are still there just not as visible)
- Delete your public messages.

I had the misconception that 'public' meant LT users at large and 'private' meant only those to whom the message was sent could see it.

That is correct. Public messages can be seen by anybody who visits your profile. Until they are archived or deleted. Private messages only by the sender and receiver.

>3 mysterymax: Yep - that’s exactly what the public/private checkbox means. Why do you think it was a misconception?

>5 AnnieMod: mysterymax said LT user, and I don't believe that you have to be an LT member to see someone's profile page, so that is indeed a misconception

>5 AnnieMod: I'm guessing the OP meant "seen by public" as being visible to the wider un-logged in public that comes across LT in the course of browsing, as opposed to other LT members.
But the answer's still "yep". Unless the message is clicked as private, it's visible to every Tom, Dick and Harry who passes through, whether they are a member of LT or not.
