I think you're right with it being the number of books, I believe 100 is the threshold that the "new recommendations" activates at, going by the feature announcement topic which can be found at: https://www.librarything.com/topic/346584
(about halfway through post #1, look for the "There are some limitations now" with three bullet points)

I'm having the same problem. But I have 260 books added.
I'm a new user and it has been stuck at the "Unfortunately, we have not yet calculated your recommendations." for several days.
I imported my books from a CSV file from a different site.

If you read the link in >2 Nevov: you will see that unless your books cluster well, you still may not have enough books for the new system to find anything.

Ahh!! My recommendations have started working.
I had a problem with my imports. The covers were not found for most of them. (See another post of mine in this group.) It was suggested that maybe the ASIN or ISBN did not get imported. I fixed the covers, and probably at the same time it also fixed the ISBN or ASIN numbers. So now I have >100 and are getting recommendations.
Thanks all!

>6 ekorpach: They do not happen instantaneously so yes - it takes a bit after you actually have enough books for them to calculate initially. :) Have fun exploring them!

I think I spoke too soon...
When I click "Home" at the top there is a horizontal banner with Home, Profile, Charts.., Recommendations and such. When I click that Recommendations I still get the original error as above.
But... When I got to "Home" there is a side panel with Your World, .... and ALSO has Recommendations. When I click that Recommendations that is when a page loads correctly.
From that page when I click All Recommendations it takes me to Legacy Recommendation>Classic with a text list.
Is that what is supposed to happen?

>8 ekorpach: That means that the new style recommendations had not calculated for you yet but the legacy ones are there.
LT had two separate systems for recommendations. :)

>10 MysticPanda: Give it a few more days - maybe they turned off the process during the holidays or it is low priority. :)

Same issue here. I have added over 1,400 titles to my collections since joining in November, so not meeting a minimum book count shouldn't be the cause.

>13 MysticPanda: >14 NFSreloaded: Have you checked to make sure you have at least 100 books with a genre selected? Just having the books may not be enough to trigger the recommendations, since it is based of books, genres, AND like libraries.
16MarthaJeanne
>14 NFSreloaded: You also have many books with no other members, or only one or two. That doesn't give the computer much to work with.

>15 gilroy: I've noticed that I had to manually add authors, dates, and covers to a fair number of books I imported/added, but do I have to add genres to these as well? Or do I have to make my collections/tags more specific?
>16 MarthaJeanne: The "classic recommendations" and "similar libraries" features have worked fine in spite of this bottleneck, though. I did notice that some translated titles in my collection are separate from their more popular originals, maybe there is a way I can manually connect/merge those works? Edit: I've discovered the Helper Hub, I'll see what I can do.

>17 NFSreloaded: Once you've merged those that need it, you MIGHT be okay, but many of the singletons will probably need the genres checked/added.
