I've enjoyed the Farley Mowat books that I've read, although I've become increasingly concerned as I've aged about their veracity. What bothers me more is that I've learned from reading this biography that many of Mr. Mowat's early stories and articles were not accepted by Canadian publishers but were sold in the U.S. And that U.S. publishers/editors paid more for them than Mr. Mowat could have earned in Canada. I am glad we've become more aggressive in supporting our Canadian culture over the years.

But, overall, this book is not well written. The author has amassed a number of facts and lays them out, largely chronologically. There is no over-arching narrative -- this reads like a high school essay. ( )
