It can be read as a stand a lone. This novel is full of mystery, suspense, adventure, romance, and sexy Scotsmen. The story is so vivid and detailed that I felt like I was in Scotland right along with the characters. All the characters are intriguing, interesting, and have strong family ties. I loved all the Scotsmen that are introduced. Who doesn’t love a sexy man in a kilt? The story moves along at a nice pace, the romance is sweet, and the mystery/suspense was enjoyable. I think the best thing about this series is that you can pick up any of the books and just go. You don’t have to read them in order to understand the world and characters. Heart of the Highland Wolf was such a fun story to read. I love Ms. Spear’s Highland wolfs. A nice addition to the series. This series is on the lighter side without being intentionally humorous. But there is no end of the world, no evil magic etc. I enjoy the wolf culture in these books. It doesn't dominate the stories, but it's definitely there. Mostly this story is about two people meeting and falling in love. There are plenty of interesting secondary characters. The plot was nice except the ending mystery was a bit weak but I wasn't reading it for the mystery. There was a hot highland laird who was also a wolf and a wolf woman who writes werewolf romances for a living. A nice way to spend a couple of hours. (
