Part of a series of books that deal with the lives of Nicky and his older disabled brother Kenny and his struggling father who is on bail for receiving stolen goods. The family have found it tough since Nicky and Kenny's mother left, with their father turning to alcohol to cope and making poor choices. On this morning, Kenny wakes Nicky to show him some bullies attacking a badger set with their dogs. Nicky stays because he can't drag Kenny away and witnesses cruelty to not only the badgers but also one of the bullies' own dogs. In the midst of the chaos though, Nicky sees the mother badger take some cubs away to safety. When the bullies have killed an old badger and leave, Kenny and Nicky discover that the bullies' dog is not dead as first thought and there is one badger cub left - so they take them back to their house . This sets off a chain of events that help change their lives...
Nice story about hope and kindness and doing the right thing even when it could have dire consequences. Hate the cover though ! ( )
