Really loved this book! I went through the book with a friend's 8- and 10-year old daughters, and they loved the illustrations and explanations of each technique. You can learn so much here. In a day and time when exercise is something we have to seek out for our kids, this is just the solution for encouraging kids to spend some time on an activity that gets them moving more than just their thumbs, and still have fun. I had previously given them some high-quality ropes with wooden handles, hand-me-downs from my own children, and the book was a perfect companion to those.I can recommend this for the ages suggested. I'd say younger kids might not have the strength or coordination to execute the techniques described. All in all, cool book! ( )

Who knew there was so much to learn about jump roping! I expected this book to be fun and it was, but I didn't know it would talk about some more technical aspects of jump roping too. I never knew that there was an importance to what kind and even what length of rope you use. This book can help you find both. I went through the book with my nine year old and she loved it. I think seven to twelve is the perfect age range for this book. I also tried it with the four year olds. They had some fun but didn't have the attention span or the physical ability to do a lot of the tricks. Good birthday or Christmas gift! ( )

Cool Jump-Rope Tricks You Can Do! by David Fisher is a great book for learning jump basics and tricks. I enjoyed flipping through and looking at the steps for the tricks. Too bad I'm too old and fat to try them. I showed the book to the local elementary P.E. teacher and she was impressed with the layout and the variety of tricks. Color pictures would be nice for a future edition, just to catch the eye better. Overall, a great and informative book.

Great how to jump rope book. I liked that there are no jumping tricks included in this book and that the book progresses from simple to complex. The book explains the different types of ropes and their uses. It also give recommendations of length for ropes and types of surfaces. Good ideas on using a cushioned mat on top of a smooth surface to jump. This book is probably geared more toward a child that is already mastered the basic jump and wanting to learn more advanced moves. ( )

My four and a half year old daughter received an Advance Copy of this book. Frankly, this book looks AMAZING. I really believe that this book will teach her all about jump rope tricks as she progresses through the book in years age 5 and 6 and beyond. That's why this review will be UPDATED in the future.

The reason I only gave this book 3 stars right now is that we only got a few pages into the book and had to stop. My daughter is following the warm up exercises (she can kinda do those) and than trying to teach her to actually jump a rope.

We ran into problems immediately.

First, her average size jump rope is TOO LONG and heavy for her little hands. She can't swing it over her head. Therefore, I will have to go against the books advice on size and SHORTEN her jump rope by at lest one foot just so she can try to swing it over her head.

Second, the book really didn't address this, but the child who is as young and novice as my daughter should learn on a SOFT surface. We started off on our driveway, but she got confused and fell down a couple times. We moved over to the grass and she was much more confident and willing to take risks, even if it was a bit harder to swing the jump rope.

Third (and this sounds silly until you try teaching a very young child for 10-20 minutes) The author says to just "swing the jump rope over your head". Guess what? She couldn't do it. I had her practice with her butterfly net and she was great, but she couldn't really do the two handed swing. I guess she's just too young (almost 5 years old) but I was a little surprised there were no step by step photos for this basic technique or tricks to use with little children.

This is a great book, and I'm planning on revisiting this and surely increasing the stars rating in the future as my daughter gets older and increases her skill set to match the book. ( )
