Nope, I am done with this shit.
I dropped the book at a bit over 50%.
The MC is so incredibly stupid constantly, I don't even want to try counting.
The whole drug relapse was frustrating but totally in character and believable. That's just how it is.
But it doesn't stop there. She just makes one stupid decision after another basically every time she can make any decision at all. It's infuriating to read and doesn't fit the character I have gotten to know in the series so far. It's probably all just an incredibly contrived setup because the author couldn't come up with a better one for the climax she wanted.

This is no worthy continuation of the series. ( )

Hasn't even been 2 weeks since I read this and already I'm starting to forget the plot and details.

Spoilerific notes for future self:

Who's who:

Angel: protagonist, the book begins with her being addicted to a serum called V12 that gives her super zombie powers. The doctor (dr.Nikas) finds out and helps her recover. By the end she takes a huge dose and her limbs start falling off. Nikas takes "african zombie compound" recipe from Angels' boss, Alan, (who turns out also knew about zombies and Angel being one) and manages to save her. Angel advocates having a network of human allies since they can't have an "exodus" and disappear in this modern age of technology and shit.

Nick (the prick): Angel's coworker that helped her study for her SATs. Is pre-med. Angel's best friend, becomes her love interest in this book. Plot about him having an abusive survivalist gun-nut dad called Bear who wants Nick to become a doctor. Nick gets accepted to med school but doesn't wanna go. Drama. Nick learns about Angel being a zombie.

Bear: Nick's dad. At the beginning works with an antagonist because he thinks zombies are monsters. Becomes an ally when Angel tells him the truth about being constantly hunted and in danger when she's just trying to live her life.

Jud - Koi - Randy: The trio of stupid. Randy is Angel's ex, Koi is his gullible friend he wants to protect, and Jud is the alpha asshole sociopath. Jud kills a dude that was in a film premier in a mock-zombie-hunt that was a promo to said film. Convinces the other 2 idiots to help him cover it up, Angel gets it the way. Jud knows about zombies and Angel being one from a flash drive he stole from dead guy. Goes on a hunt to catch Angel with hopes to hand her over to Bear. Chase on crocodile land ensues. Jud becomes a zombie, even though his brain was damaged. Randy does not get jail time.

Rosario - Marla: Rosario is the dude that hunts Angels throughout the book. Is infatuated and duped by dr Cristy Charish. Is the one who told Bear about the existence of zombies. I think in the end he escapes from the good guys. Marla is his zombie-sniffing cadaver dog.

Pietro/Pierce: Head of zombie mafia, uncle of Marcus, Angel's ex zombie-boyfriend cop. Does not appear much in this book.

DR. Charish: We don't see her. By the end we learn she struck a contract with saberton.

End of the book:

Angel is happy with her dad. Nick and Alan are her allies and are in the know. Charish is still free. Hope that the african compound will reduce the need for human brains - hope that zombies will be able to "come out" to everyone so they can control their narrative. ( )

Slow start and some other character development made this hard to get into but things got much better about 1/3rd of the way in. After that, I didn't want to stop the story. ( )

Diana Rowland continues to impress - I love the sense of humor behind the White Trash Zombie books, and though this book didn't make me laugh outright like some of the ones before it, it didn't stop me from devouring the book in a few hours. Angel's sweet redneck heart continues to be such a refreshing delight. ( )

This is a better turn for the series, getting away from corporate or spy shit and giving us an old-style drug problem to work through. :)

I knew it was coming from the end of the previous book, but to see all the horrible issues of the soldier potion for zombies turn her into a self-serving self-destructive zombie who had Just started getting her life together was a very pleasant move. It was going too easy for Angel. The personal agency stuff needed a big kick in the ass, and I'm so happy it happened this way.

Zombie life is interesting enough on its own. :)

Total brain candy. Literally. Yummy Brains. :) ( )
