Vulgar, crass, lurid, honest and very readable. When Willam is funny, she's very funny but I did find the book to be a bit spotty and found myself skimming some of the less interesting chapters. Definitely worth reading if you're a RuPaul's Drag Race fan. ( )

One of the first things I noticed about Willam when she first stepped onto the tv show Rupaul's Drag Race, was that this drag queen was SMART! There is a certain "branding" I feel a drag queen has to do, to be successful in their field. They need talent yes, which Willam has in spades, but more then that, they need to know how to brand themselves in a way that sticks, and separates them from the pack. The best queens I've seen understand and do this well. The rest, fall flat or stay somewhere in the middle.
This book is only further proof that Willam is one smart drag queen. She has created this, no holds barred, I don't give a shit attitude that has worked so well for her. Or I suppose, based on this book, it isn't so much she created, but rather, she is just being her, and the fans are loving her for it.
This sort of "self Help" guide to how to suck less, is witty, in your face, and even at times deep. I found myself folding corners on many pages thinking, I can use this quote, or, yes I think that too! Who knew Willam would be more then just a funny queen I love to see perform. She actually has some great life advice!
There are bits I cringed at, and times when her crass or say it like he see's mantra rubbed me wrong. His utter lack of sympathy or care for up and coming drag queens who reach out to him for advice bothers me a lot. Especially considering he fully admits we probably would not have any idea who he is without the aid of Rupaul. I'm not saying he needs to mentor or take on every queen looking for help, and there is a lot to be said about working hard for what you want. But it seems he really detests these queens, and it sort of feels hypocritical to me. Throw a girl a bone here and there.
Overall, it was everything I hoped a book written by Willam would be. I laughed, I dry heaved, I rolled my eyes, I said "yaaass kweeeen." I did it all. Willam is probably one of the most talented and smart queens in the industry, and it was awful kind of her to share some of her knowledge with the world on how to suck less.
A thoroughly enjoyable read, if for nothing else, a good laugh on a rainy day. ( )
