Finally, a modern book about the airport! Perfect for my preschooler. The family we travel with is multiracial which is a welcome touch. ( )

This is an amazing book about traveling through an airport that has subtle but very important references and art that depict travel in the US for all kinds of citizens. On any given page the art represents all races, religions and sexualities. The fact that the art incorporates these things without the text being about them instills a subconscious acceptance that is so crucial for students and young children. I think this is exactly the kind of book that every person should be exposed to in their lives. ( )

Join a young boy, his toddler sister, and their parents as they journey through a busy airport. From leaving the house to experiencing turbulence, and from boarding the plane to the baggage claim, the siblings take you through the entire process of going to the airport and flying on a plane. There is even a fun subplot about the sister's toy monkey and his journey in and out of a suitcase below the plane. The text is straightforward and told from a child's point of view, and Brown provides a diverse set of characters one would most likely see at an airport. Each page has an expansive set of characters and different settings which can seem a little overwhelming, but this only encompasses the hustle and bustle one experiences in an airport. This book is great for any families preparing to take a trip on an airplane or for little ones who are curious about airports.

This book is a great book to teach students about the in's and out's of traveling on an airplane! I believe that this book would be a good extension of a geography lesson or when discussing what the students are doing for summer or spring break if they are traveling anywhere exciting! :)

A family go on vacation in this informative and engaging picture-book, which chronicles their experience traveling via flight. From catching a cab to the airport, through their many experiences once there - standing in various lines, walking by the businesses that look like little indoor "cities" - from their in-flight activities to their eventual arrival at their destination, although this is entitled The Airport Book, it actually depicts the entire process of travelling by air, from beginning to end.

Although not what I would call a thrilling read, The Airport Book does offer a fairly entertaining look at an experience that many children will share: travelling with family through a busy airport. The text, which is narrated by the young boy of the family, is enlivened by speech bubbles which document what various travelers (including members of the boy's family) are saying to one another. The boy's younger sister, for instance, is constantly asking for her toy monkey, packed in one of the checked suitcases. The artwork is humorous and enjoyable - I liked the contrast between the more colorful people and objects and the white backgrounds - and adds quite a bit to the story. I appreciated the fact that the central family depicted here is biracial. All in all, a solid book, one I would recommend to anyone wanting to introduce a younger child - ages three to seven - to the idea of travel via airplane. ( )
