Sully may have broken her heart, but she has never given up on her love for him. Consumed by her own guilt over their shared past, Celia has used her time and her contacts to search out the truth about his parents' deaths. Unfortunately, that has put a target on her back as well as his.
The action, both physical and emotional, began early and never let up. Sully had finally realized the truth about their past, and now that she was there didn't want to let her go. But Celia had been hurt too badly and refused to open herself up to more of the same. I ached so much for both of them. Sully, because he still loved her and knew how badly he had screwed up. All he wants is the chance to make it up to her and show her how much he cares. Celia, because she still loves him, too, and is afraid of what it would do to her if he turned his back on her again. I enjoyed seeing Sully work to regain Celia's trust as they pursued the leads and tried to uncover the truth behind his parents' deaths. I loved Sully's big moment at the end.
The conclusion of the series also meant finally discovering who killed the McGuire parents. Throughout the series, we've seen how those deaths affected each of the siblings, and their determination to find the truth. I loved the scene involving Celia, the sheriff, and the safe house, and Sully's actions to keep her safe. The increasing intensity of the attacks that were meant to stop them showed how desperate the perps were to keep their secrets. The final confrontation was a real nail-biter. The bad guy wasn't a complete surprise by the end, as several clues had been given. But his motivations were a surprise along with an unexpected revelation. ( )
