I might be the only unmated female in my tribe, but it doesn't mean I've given my heart. I'm waiting. I want resonance, and I won't settle for anything less. But when an alien ship lands and a handsome stranger steps out, I know he's the one. His name's Mardok and he's fascinatingly different-and distractingly appealing. But Mardok can't stay on the ice planet, and he says he can take me with him. Now, I must make a choice. Do I stay and lose my mate forever? Or do I follow him to the stars and leave behind everything I know? Contains mature themes.… (mais)

Barbarian's Choice is a great read. I love that this book shows the modern messakahs. The Corsair/Rhisdaverse series is a favorite of mine and it was so fun to read the earliest mentions of what eventually becomes that series. The clash of the advanced and primitive worlds was really interesting. Farli and Mardok are great characters and they are really good together. They were both very accepting and protective of each other from the start and I completely believed in their feelings for each other.

There were a couple things in the book that I didn't like. At one point Mardok says too much about his past lovers to Farli. She does ask, but it's still uncomfortable. Also, when Mardok meets the tribe, his thoughts are pretty disparaging about the humans. I think it was supposed to show that he wasn't interested in anyone but Farli, but I don't think it made him look good. ( )

Mardok & Farli's story was adorable to read. I enjoyed reading through their decision, secretly rooting for one side. ( )

This will be the second book of a Sha-Khui couple as Farli apparently is now a young adult, 25, old enough to be matched with a mate. Can't even imagine the stampede of the unmated men to win her favor and resonance...It turned out to be surprisingly different, and maybe my favorite of the whole series! First of all, Farli is wonderful, just delightful. When another spacecraft in trouble lands on the Ice Planet, Farli, out hunting, is the one to find it and she immediately resonates with the craft's mechanic. This leads to a lot of satisfying consequences - the healing of Harlow's brain tumor, the restoration of Lila's hearing, the original space ship being uprighted and work on repairing and updating its mechanical and computer systems. Farli makes a wonderful, delightful heroine and there is a lot of suspense about whether she goes with Mardok to his planet (which sounds dreadful) or he stays on hers, though he hates the place. The references to many other planets and space travel and commerce of all kinds, and then the shrewd deal Bek makes with the returning spaceship's captain expands the universe for these guys and opens the way for new books in the series as well as new mates for the four or five remaining unmated hunters. I would give this one more than 5 stars if they had them, for being such an enjoyable, different, often funny and sometimes tear-inducing read! ( )

Farli, Mardok
This book is different as we have been looking at things mostly from the humans POV but in this book Fafli is the main POV and Mardok is the visiting alien.
We see things as a member of the tribe and how the humans appear to them.
It may also be a suprise that Farli has not resonated with Bek as many may have expected. Clever developments that open the series up to many more story-lines.

Merged review:

Funny bits, sad bits, a truly sweet story. Farli. Also small scenes with other members of the tribe. ( )
