Story based on Stravinsky’s music and the ballet set to it. I loved that the trapped maiden went along to help Ivan defeat the magician. Aside from exposure to diverse folklore, this would be a great book to focus on unknown vocabulary and context clues. ( )

Prince Ivan went hunting and entered a garden. He was intrigued by a Firebird and catches her. She begs to be released and when Prince Ivan releases her, the Firebird plucks a feather from her breast and gives it to Prince Ivan as gratitude for her. With the feather, Prince Ivan can use it for help. Prince Ivan becomes traped by wizard Kastchei. ( )
