Every so often, as I read BDSM books, I wonder what a nonconsensual book would look like, and somewhere I read that Claire Thompson does nonconsensual stories really well, so I ordered a couple to see what I would see... Well, non consensual books don't work for me. I'm not turned on, I'm turned queasy and the better written/more believable it is, the queasier I get. I started reading but even page 6 was too heavy for me. I could relate to the poor girls terror but the men were despicable and revolting and unredeemable and I didn't want to be anywhere near them and certainly not have them in my head. So I stopped reading. I have 2 more Claire Thompson books but I don't think I'm a fair reviewer of her work, because it's not her fault that I don't like the very clear parameters of her work. She writes well, and her characters are believable, I just don't want to go there. ( )

This was a very provocative novella and a quick read for anyone into S/M, heavy on the master and slave part. The story line, with her being such a good young woman, living to help others, the reader gets the immediate sense that she is deeply hindered by her family and soon to be husband. When she's kidnapped, she learns so much about passion and about fear and a great deal of want and need.

I also enjoyed the secondary pieces, where she falls in love with another type of slave, who happens to be dominate over her. The ending was just amazing. It was subtle and pretty. ( )
