Jordan Kralls literary style rejects linear narratives, focusing instead on well-crafted vignettes or flash-fictions. We see the characters come in and out of focus, but the story is told in an atemporal fashion; childhood memories clash right up against deathbed declarations. The story that emerges in Gorgonaeon is one of abuse, childhood traumas coming back to haunt dysfunctional adulthoods; straining relationships and destroying careers. Throughout there are poetic flashes, repeated motifs; shattered mirrors, distorted reflections (both visual and self-perceptual), dead snakes, murder victims, seedy motel rooms, unrelenting heat, gardens gone to riot, the death of family members (both cherished and unloved). The end result is a miasma of terrors both real and imagined. ( ) sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
GORGONAEON, one in a proposed cycle of several books, is a fragmentary and hallucinogenic reading experience. Frequent shifts in time and perspective imbue this book with an atmosphere of paranoia and dread, but an optimistic and magical aura can be exhumed from Krall's alchemical wordplay as well. The bizarre mages are poetically stitched to an odd narrative about mental and moral disintegration to create a curious doubling effect. Gorgonaeon is a challenging yet rewarding read that will appeal to fans of grotesque surrealism.PRAISE FOR JORDAN KRALL"Jordan Krall is one of the best of the next generation of writers looking askance at modern life and able to chart its absurdities and its dangers. His books conjure up uncomfortable visions with a lucid and alienating gaze." - Jeff Vandermeer, award-winning author of THE SOUTHERN REACH TRILOGY"A dark maze of the soul and mirror eyes that kill: horror at its mythological best."
