This was an adorable story about a watch-cat named Muffin discovering something amiss during the night shift! Bears in the bakery! I liked how there was a playful sort of suspense and surprise with each bear encounter that changed into something positive just after. I also really like the author's way with words and how they used pretty and descriptive language while still keeping things simple enough for children to read and enjoy! Recommended by ? (I forget. Catherine? Sam? Lauren?) Muffin the cat makes a nocturnal visit to a bakery to investigate some strange sounds - which turn out to be coming from a bear cub's growling tummy! Muffin helps the bear cub eat its fill, and is rewarded with a bear hug from Mama Bear. "So that's it. Another case closed by Muffin. No bears in Little Bear Bakery. Not anymore. I took care of them... Now it's time for a nap. By the way, we're out of donuts." The final page shows the human bakery worker standing in open-mouthed surprise at the mess in the bakery. It's the story of Muffin the Cat who knows all the noises in the bakery until one night.....but what is it? And what is going to happen??
To the adult, it's predictable. Even to the kindergarten kids I read it to they knew what was going on. And the story did feel a bit....abrupt. All of a sudden it was over. There was not much of a storyline, which is something I personally prefer in my picture books. But I did enjoy the illustrations. ( )
