It all started with the wrong Help Wanted ad. Of course it did. I'm a professional fluffer. It's NOT what you think. I stage homes for a living. Real estate agents love me, and my work stands on its own merits. Sigh. Get your mind out of the gutter. Go ahead. Laugh. I'll wait. See? That's the problem. My career has used the term "fluffer" for decades. I didn't even know there was a more... lascivious definition of the term. Until it was too late. The ad for a "professional fluffer" on Craigslist seemed like divine intervention. My last unemployment check was in the bank. I was desperate. Rent was due. The ad said cash paid at the end of the day. The perfect job! Staging homes means showing your best angle. The same principle applies in making a certain kind of movie. Turns out a "fluffer" doesn't arrange decorative pillows on a couch. They arrange other soft, round-ish objects. The job isn't hard. Er, I mean, it is - it's about being hard. Or, well... helping other people to be hard. Oh, man... And that's the other problem. A man. No, not one of the stars on the movie set. Will Lotham - my high school crush. The owner of the house where we're filming. Illegally. In a vacation rental. By the time the cops show up, what I thought was just a great house staging gig turned into a nightmare involving pictures of me with an undressed star, Will rescuing me from an arrest, and a humiliating lesson in my own naivete. My job turned out to be so much harder than I expected. But you know what's easier than I ever imagined? Having all my dreams come true.… (mais)

A job ad in the paper for a ‘professional fluffer’ gets completely misinterpreted by Mallory so she goes for it, even after the weird conversation with the person on the phone, what could go wrong? She really had no idea what a professional fluffer was, but it was not what she was thinking! I could picture the scene from the book and I was crying with laughter.

It had everything, humour, friendship, love, of course, there is love it’s a romantic comedy and a high school reunion.

From the first page, it had my thorough attention and it is one of those books where you really should put it down because you need sleep but you say ‘just one more chapter’. I have not read anything from Julia Kent before but I will definitely be reading more if her books are all as funny as this is.
I’m not giving any spoilers, apart from the blurb but I would definitely recommend it, go read it now.

4.5 stars

Loved the quirkiness of the female characters(all of them) and the sweetness of Will. It was the inner thoughts and snark that made me laugh though. It made me fall in love with this book. Great story, humor, and growing up made for the perfect book. ( )

3.5 stars, is that a thing?

The setup for this is absurd, which you know when you read the blurb. So I think it’s sort of self-selecting there - only people who want a bonkers rom com will pick up the book.

Overall it’s a funny, sweet romance with a few lulls because the heroine has pretty horrible self-confidence. I really liked her friends, the way she doesn’t let her high school GPA define her life (she stays in her hometown) and the hero. I didn’t like the high school reunion - shocking - or the push pull of their slow burn. For a book that starts out on a porn set, I was honestly expecting more heat. (I am glad that it’s not sex-shamey though.)

Anyway, it was a mostly fun read, with a few quibbles. ( )

Fluffy is everything you would expect from a Julia Kent novel. Mischievously funny. Irresistibly charming and hard to let go of in the end. I laughed my way to tears. Mal is a tad goofy, but all heart. When desperation lands her in an awkward situation is when the laugh out loud moments begin. What I love most about this author is that the imperfections are what make the story great. Ms. Kent finds gold in the awkward and that's what appeals to the human in us all. ( )
