The first book in Zanetti's new series has her returning home to handle family business and putting some haunts to rest. Zanetti starts strong - we're given a crash course in Laurel's intelligence, observation skills and some of her flaws. It was a rapid fire crash course, and edged a little too closely to exposition at times, but for the rest of the novel we get a whole lot backing up the claims. This was tense, from the prologue where you know those teens were being dumb to the reveal about family secrets, there's a thrumming undercurrent that screamed DANGER. This felt very much like Criminal Minds (at its best), aided by the fact Laurel is a certified genius, but doesn't QUITE grasp how to people. She does it better then some characters, but its not her first instinct. She analyzes, studies, tries to figure out the why of people before attempting to interact in any natural way. The mystery is, well, thrilling and the action just the right amount of exciting and "what will happen next". I didn't realize going in this was an ongoing romantic suspense series, so I was concerned at times. Huck didn't meet a bullet or knife he didn't want to get intimately acquainted with. The excerpt at the end promises some interpersonal tension in addition to murder mystery tension and I can't wait. **Thank You PRH customer service, Kensington Publishing, & Between the Chapters for this free book in a Goodreads Giveaway*** #BETWEENTHECHAPTERS #LaurelSnowRomanticThriller A new series introducing Laurel Snow. I read this book in 1 day. It's an engrossing, intricate, slow burn thriller that grabs you and hold on and keeps you guessing. Laurel is an FBI profiler with eidetic memory, heterochromia iridun, & a little lacking on people skills. She's sent home to investigate a discovery of dead bodies that were unearthed by an ATV accident. She's assigned to work with Captain Huck Rivers of the Fish & Game. A mysterious and abrupt man who makes no bones about working with a Fed. Setting up shop to start investigating, Laurel teams up and hires Kate as an assistant and coordinates with the local law and Huck. Trying to identify the bodies, gather background information, and interview witnesses has Laurel & Huck at their wits end connecting the victims. An enigmatic witness named Abigail begins a cat and mouse with Laurel in a battle of wits that Laurel is unsure of. The matching of their minds and education unsettles Laurel and she can't quite put her finger on why. Meanwhile there's something simmering between Laurel and Huck that needs to be explored all while Laurel is dealing with living at home with her mother where buried secrets lie and some family become suspects in the killings. Someone is pulling the strings as the body count starts to rise as Laurel and Huck try to flush out a serial killer who is also trying to flush out Laurel. Secrets from the past are revealed and a bombshell drops with devastating results. I love finding a new series to read. Laurel Snow is a brilliant FBI agent/profiler (although she doesn't like the identifier). When she is called to her hometown of Genesis Valley, WA to solve a series of murders, she finds out some interesting things about herself, namely a half-sister she never knew about, Dr. Abigail Caine. Additionally, Huck Rivers, a handsome fish and wildlife officer is partnered with her on the murder cases, and Laurel is very attracted to him. Laurel's uncle is suspected in these murders, but Laurel doesn't believe it. However, she has to keep her personal feelings buried so she can do her job. As Laurel discovers more about her own life, she comes into a dangerous situation with the killer. Good start to a new romantic suspense series! sem crÃticas | adicionar uma crÃtica
