"Five Wishes ... A travelogue of a family's journey, both literally and figuratively, as they navigate their way through life-changing and life-affirming events. Karin Gertsch has created a family story that immediately welcomes the reader to join them at the kitchen table. Set in a small town in Massachusetts, the tale takes you to the back roads of Sedona and to the castles of Scotland, and lands you right back to home and hearth. This is a heartwarming blend of history, love, and lore, served up with a hot cup of tea and a warm dish of peach cobbler." - Daisy Nell, Author, Songwriter "I was delighted to spend time with the denizens of Hamlet, a town that changes slowly but is all the more endearing for it. Likewise, as the characters in this book realize they have become stuck in their ways and must force themselves to find new adventures, I couldn't help but be touched by how they approached their problems. Gertsch is a born storyteller and the tales within this book have charm to spare." - Hannah Harlow, Owner, The Book Shop of Beverly Farms Five Wishes takes place in Hamlet, a New England town. Delbert MacInnes is content to live where he was born and raised. "I'll look out another window if I want a different view," he says. Matilda MacInnes isn't the complaining type; she wants her family to believe she's happy with her life, but for decades she's hidden a big secret, and it wants out! When an unexpected event happens, Matilda discovers-though she is no longer young-that wishes can still come true.… (mais)

This was a very good book and I really enjoyed reading it. Thank you LibraryThing for allowing me to read it. It’s the story of Bertie and Tilli and their daughters Mel and Lyn. There are family secrets that surface later in the story. Family members deal with these things beautifully. I highly recommend this book. ( )

I will try to give this one another go, but I was completely thrown out of it by every character getting mutliple names. The author would introduce a character, then give them another name that they are known by. It completely threw me out of the story. ( )

Review: Early Reviewers Book-Five Wishes by Karin M. Gertsch

This was a wonderful book. It's the type of book that can be taken to the beach for a relaxing time. It's about a family in a small town in Massachusetts. Bertie, the husband owns a shoe repair shop and the wife Tilli is a respectable down-to-earth person with two grown daughters.

They are a happy couple and Bertie is content living his life in a small town but Tilli sometimes thinks she is missing out on what she would like to do. However, she never lets on to Bertie and her daughters what her innermost wishes are. She secretly has five wishes she wants and one of them haunts her most every day of her life.

Then the unthinkable happens. Bertie dies and Tilli's grief has made her depressed for a long time. So, her daughters Mel and Lyn decide to try and get their mother out of the house and take a short trip to try to lift her spirits. That's all it took for Tilli to turn her life around and think about her wish list. The story continues with adventure, traveling, and lots of love also, Bertie has a secret he had kept from Tilli through their marriage. Read on to find out what his secret was, ( )

Thank you to LibraryThing, the author and the publisher.

Set in a small town in MA, where it has an old fashioned feel to it. Berti and Tilli are just down home folks in their 70s with two grown daughters. Tilli always wanted to travel but Bertie liked his little life in his little town.

Then tragedy strikes and life has changed not only for Tilli but also for Mel and Lyn, her daughters. Life is not the same and Tilli has to drag herself through life without Bertie. Seems that both she and Bertie had secrets hidden from each other.

Do their lives get better? You better believe it. Tilli starts living again and starts traveling with Mel and Lyn as she's always wanted to do and then alone. I lived vicariously through them to places I've never been. Tilli starts enjoying life again. I liked also how it didn't just focus on Tilli but Lyn and Mel as well and their lives.

Time moved fast. One time it was 7 months later, one time over a year, others, 2 weeks. It kept it interesting. ( )

Tillie MacInnes had five wished to fulfill, her bucket list. This is the story of how she accomplished them.

Had trouble (may have been me) getting started but then I didn't want to put it down. Lots of explanations of where she went but not too overwhelming, a nice travelogue. ( )
