Winston Churchill enjoyed two stints as First Lord of the Admiralty, at the start of the First World War and at the start of the Second. He retained close interest in naval matters, especially as the defeat of the U-boat menace was so vital in both wars to maintain the vital supplies so necessary for Britain's war efforts. Indeed, Churchill later said that this was the only thing that had threatened the ultimate Allied victory. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |

This work deals with WSC's interaction with the Admirals in charge of the various stations where the war was intense between 1940 and 1943. Capt. Roskill is very much a believer in WSC as a very "hands-on" manger of the war at sea, and often had advice for the on the spot commanders. Sometimes, this lead to unfortunate outcomes. There was considerable differences in the opinions of Roskill and that of Jacob Marder another prominent historian of the war at sea. This book contains an appendix referring to the controversy and explains something of Roskill's methods in coming to his opinions.
