On one hand the time line of this book is the thing that made it rather unpleasant to read. It started out fine but the middle section was just so dragged out and what would normally be a major event in most books are just brushed aside as insignificant and ultimately ignored. The lack of continuity of events is the problem with the book. On the other hand being an English translation of a Norwegian book and set in Norway made it an interesting read. Not the most enjoyable of reads. The good things about "Blind Goddess": The story is told using some cleverly intersecting timelines in a way that makes the story less linear, increases tension and sustains some useful ambiguity The action scene - there's only one - not much else really happens, despite there being multiple killings - is well-done. It's set in Norway so there's snow and lots of polite aggression. Things that made *Blind Goddess" a 2.5 star read: I didn't care about any of the characters - even when they were the good guys and in mortal danger. The writing was too arms-length - too dependent on the narration of an omniscient authorial voice. I felt like I was reading a screenplay. There was so little tension that, even though the plot is quite clever, I was tempted to give up about halfway through and read something that provoked more than mild curiosity. What little tension there was depended on unlikely events, like a car failing for no reason or a man being so worried by a vague threat that he suicides. The relationship between the main police officer and the prosecutor was central to the story and yet, after reading the whole thing, I still didn't know what that relationship was. My advice: unless you're a true scandi crime fan, wait for the TV adaptation to come out. Der erste Kriminalfall der bekannten und beliebten Osloer Kriminalkomissarin Hanne Wilhelmsen. moody and evocative, this was not a bad nordic noir story at all. i do feel, given the series is named after hanne wilhelmsen, hanne didn't get enough page time - i was interested in following her arc a bit more than was offered, and it truly felt like an ensemble performance. the cast that was introduced was interesting enough, so i am curious to see who crops up in book 2 and what the continuity is like. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

HTML: A small-time drug dealer is found battered to death on the outskirts of the Norwegian capital, Oslo. A young Dutchman, walking aimlessly in central Oslo covered in blood, is taken into custody but refuses to talk. When he is informed that the woman who discovered the body, Karen Borg, is a lawyer, he demands her as his defender, although her specialty is civil, not criminal, law. The young man is adamant: he will speak to Karen Borg, and to her alone. A couple of days later, Hans E. Olsen, a lawyer of the shadiest kind, is found shot to death. Very soon, police officers Håkon Sand and Hanne Wilhelmsen establish a link between the two killings. They also find a coded message hidden in the murdered lawyer's apartment. Their maverick colleague in the drug squad, Billy T., reports that a recent rumor in the underworld involves lawyers employed in drug dealing. Now the reason the young Dutchman insisted on having Karen Borg as a defender dawns on them: since she was the one to find and report the body, she is the only Oslo lawyer that cannot by any means be implicated in the crime. As the officers investigate, they uncover a massive network of corruption involving the highest levels of government. As their lives are threatened, Hanne and her colleagues must find the killer and, in the process, bring the lies and deception out into the open. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
