I bought this book when it first came out and just now got around to reading it. Boy, am I kicking myself for waiting for so long. I REALLY enjoyed this anthology. Every story is strong and quite different from the average anthology fare. I used to buy a lot of anthologies, but after getting burned a few times I stopped. This was one I picked up in my anthology buying heyday. I was familiar with Christine and Marjorie's work. They were why I bought the anthology in the first place. But I'm glad I kept reading or I wouldn't have 'discovered' the other two authors, Caitlin and Jenna. I enjoyed their stories enough to want to check out their backlist. And frankly, that's about the best compliment that you can pay to anybody. :) ( )

Vampire stories: "The robber bride" / Marjorie M. Liu (p. 91-184) -- "Sin slayer" / Jenna MacLaine (p. 263-342).

Only read Christine Warren "Devil's Bargain" and Caitlin Kittredge "Down in the Ground Where the Dead Men Go."

"Devil's Bargain" by Christine Warren ~ 3 Stars
This short story was interesting, steamy and certain parts were funny, but it's not fantastic. It's not like her "Others" series, if your looking for something on that line this is not it.

"Down in the Ground Where the Dead Men Go" by Caitlin Kittredge ~ 1.5 - 2 Stars
This short story goes with her Black London series. This story is #1.5 in the series. I wanted to get into Black London, but I'm having such a hard time with the series.

Jake is an ass and not likable especially in this story. The denouement is most confusing; I did not understand who was doing what or what was their driving purpose, I just couldn't bring myself to care for any of the characters, and the plot was unnecessarily complicated.

Christine's Devil's Bargain and Marjorie's The Robber Bride are the only two I read out of the four. They were both interesting reads. Not sure that I'd want to read more in the dark world of Robber Bride. Cover doesn't match the stories at all. ( )
