The main story is not bad at all, but there are so many (large) filler parts and filler words and unnecessary (not that original) worldbuilding that I got bored. Not impressed, not gonna read the sequels. ( )
Dark, beautiful, ugly, gorgeous and honest. This book gleefully reeled me in with vivid characters and then joyfully stomped my heart into itty, bitty, teeny, tiny pieces in such an achingly wonderful way. It is a harsh look at life, power, corruption, consequence, and the surprising diamonds found in the refuse. What a wonderful, emotional roller coaster. More. More! MORE! ( )

I really enjoyed this book. It certainly had some of the characteristics of traditional fantasy novels, but it also incorporated other elements and was somewhat unique. I found myself rooting for the characters and I honestly didn't expect the ending. ( )
