This is a modern take on Pride and Prejudice; I have never read P&P or watched the TV adaptations and movies.
A highschool romance with a twist, the main character Mia, is reading Pride and Prejudice in her English class and she doesn't like it, events in their real-life seem to happen at the same time it does in the Pride and Prejudice book, but they do not pick up on it, weird. There’s also a love/hate relationship between Mia and Finn.
I enjoyed this although I think I would have “got it” more if I had read P&P. That aside it was an easy, quick and light read.… (mais)

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and easy to follow. The characters are cute and I especially enjoy the parting words of Dr O’Connor “it’s the small towns that house the darkest secrets”.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I have only read one Becky Bird book before this one which was more of a fantasy fairytale retelling. I wasn't a fan of it. I think she did much better with this one. I liked the mystery aspect and that the romance wasn't too overbearing. I love that Kenzie and Lincoln had such a great history to build their romance from and that it wasn't just jumping right in to it. I also really love the support from Gary and Kenzie's mom. It was refreshing to see that support instead of the typical evil stepmother type. Overall good writing and character building. The little bit of a twist was nice too!… (mais)

This is a sleeping beauty retelling. I enjoyed Lucy as a main character very much. She is very much like Katniss Everdeen from Hunger Games with her knowledge of hunting and archery. Her defiance is also reminiscent of Katniss. Prince Thomas is your typical handsome full of himself prince whom thinks he is God's gift to all women. I enjoyed seeing his character grow and learn from not only Lucy but the other characters as well. I liked the Cardinal as the "villian" it was different and definitely made the story more interesting. Aurora and Prince Phillip were just silly and great comedic reliefs. I love how the author pokes fun at the typical princess. There were a couple of things in the end that I thought were a little odd but nothing major enough to ruin the ending. Overall it was a cute retelling that was just missing that extra spark to earn a 5 stars. It just fell a little flat. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.… (mais)
