I am not an English scholar, and found this too academic and detailed, with lots of lists and footnotes (usually ignored by this reader). However, there are some very interesting observations, especially the chapters on seventeenth and eighteenth century poetry anthologies. For me, it felt as though the later chapters were included to pad out the book, and so the low rating.
